Here are some tips to help you play better golf:

  • How balanced are you during your swing? When you look at the tour pros, it’s amazing how they hit the ball so far without ever losing their balance. You never see a good golfer who finishes flat-footed and out of control. Try hitting shots holding your follow-through until the ball lands with your weight on your left foot and up on your right toe.

  • Make sure your shoulders, forearms and hips are square to target, it’s not essential for your feet to be on line.

  • Left arm at address is comfortably straight, right arm slightly bent, left arm stays straight in golf swing until after impact.

  • Wrists are the only thing that hinges during your back swing. So remember to grip lightly, to encourage the correct wrist action.

  • Head staying down too long after impact can cause topping! How? It will restrict your body rotation and weight transference and both of these will cause the famous ‘Chicken wing’ – which is when the arms separate through impact and shortens the radius which will in turn cause a top shot.

  • Learn how to release the club correctly! Forearm and wrist rotation is something that happens naturally to all good golfers, the correct release through the ball creates accurate and penetrating ball flight, the left wrist stays flat through impact and beyond with the forearms rotating.

  • Why do the tour pros hit the ball so far? They are very strong and flexible, they create a lot of resistance between hips and shoulders during their back swing and on the way down, their hips and shoulders separate to create the lag of the club. Angle between left arm and shaft stays constant for a long time, which gives them a very fast release at the bottom of the arch.

  • The biggest key to perfectly struck pitch shots is your weight, which should be 60% on your left side at address and stays there throughout the whole swing without the club overtaking your hands. Also make sure back swing and follow through are the same length.
